About the Community of Altadena
Altadena is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, CA, located north of Pasadena in the San Gabriel Valley and only 14 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The community has over 43,000 residents and enjoys glorious year-round weather and picturesque Southern California scenery. There are numerous natural attractions in the community centered around the breathtaking hiking trails in the surrounding San Gabriel Mountains. An active Town Council serves as an advisory body to the County government, and a host of artistic, civic and religious organizations bring vibrancy to this unique foothill community. Altadena is home to the famous Christmas Tree Lane, which has been a holiday attraction since 1920 and is a California Historical Landmark.
About the Altadena Library District
The Altadena Library District (ALD) is an independent special district that serves the residents of the unincorporated community of Altadena in Los Angeles County. The Library District is supported by property taxes and governed by five locally elected Board of Library Trustees. It operates on an annual budget of $3.9 million. ALD serves as the hub to the active and engaged community of Altadena. While the local schools are part of the Pasadena Unified School District, ALD serves five public elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school, as well as many private schools within the Altadena community. The library also serves home-schooled children and teens. Both the main and branch libraries offer a variety of special events and programs for all ages designed to inform and educate the public, while also providing fun!

The Altadena Library District is recruiting for an Adult Services Manager. Join our team as we implement an ambitious, fully funded project to transform our physical spaces over the next several years, while advancing a strategic plan that connects people and ideas to nurture the social, economic, and educational well-being our community. We also have a unique opportunity to add an additional site, which further expands our footprint.
Post Eaton-Fire, the library is playing a vital role in supporting the community's recovery and rebuilding efforts. We seek someone who is resilient, creative, and capable of thinking outside the box to meet the community where they are today and where they are heading into the future. As we continue to assess and respond to the shifting landscape of Altadena’s recovery, this role will require a flexible and responsive approach to service delivery.

As the oldest special library district in the state of California, we’re used to being on the frontier. Since the 1920s, the Altadena Library District has been a leader in community-driven services. Today, we are stepping into a new era, serving both as a strong anchor for our community and the facilitator of their aspirations.
We are proud to serve the residents of the unincorporated community of Altadena in Los Angeles County. The Library District is supported by property taxes and governed by five locally elected Board of Library Trustees. While the local schools are part of the Pasadena Unified School District, the library district serves public schools, as well as many private schools within the Altadena community.
The Position
Under general direction from the Assistant Library Director, the Adult Services Manager:
Plans, manages and directs all activities related to the operation of the Adult Services Department to meet the District’s strategic priorities, including identifying innovative ways to rethink services through various transitions
Represents the District at community events and District-related business
Serves as an integral part of the Administration team
Actively participates in public service and community engagement activities of the Adult Services team
Develops and coaches staff to achieve professional growth, with an added emphasis on fostering resilience, empathy, and flexibility in the face of community challenges.
Cultivates a highly engaged team aligned around a shared vision for the Department

Salary
The current monthly rate for this salaried, exempt position ranges from $7,392-10,401, negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
Benefits
Retirement: CalPERS, 2% @ 55 for classic members (employee pays 7% of member share), or 2% @ 62 for new members enrolled as of 01/01/2013 or afterward (employee pays 7.25% of member share). The District also participates in Social Security.
Vacation Leave: Full-time employees accrue at a rate of 18 days per year for five years, 21 days per year after five years, 23 days per year after nine years, and 28 days after 15 years. Although accruing leave, new employees are not eligible to use vacation leave during their six-month introductory period.
Holidays: Altadena Library District observes 12 paid holidays per year.
Sick Leave: Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of 1 day per month, or 12 days per year for full-time employees.
Health, Dental and Vision Insurance: The District and the employee share the cost of an employee selected health care plan; District pays up to $1675 per month.

Life Insurance: $15,000 Life Insurance Policy is provided.
An annual Wellness Stipend is given at the beginning of the fiscal year to all staff. The District also pays $50 a month in Bilingual Pay for those who qualify.
Deferred Compensation: Voluntary program available through CalPERS.

Based on a review of the applications, a limited number of the best qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include a qualifying written examination, structured oral board interview, written exercise, or other elements determined by the District to be appropriate. All applicants invited to the examination(s) will be notified of date, time, and place of examination(s).
Interview dates are to be determined.
The selected candidate will be subjected to a background investigation which may include, but is not limited to, a personal and employment history assessment, criminal history check, and verification of a valid California driver's license.
In accordance with Federal law, the District will hire only those individuals who are legally authorized to work in the United States. As a condition of employment, you will be required to present proof of your identity and employment eligibility.
Employment Lists shall remain in effect for one year, unless terminated or exhausted.
