The Altadena Library District (ALD) is an independent special district that serves the residents of the unincorporated community of Altadena in Los Angeles County. The Library District is supported by property taxes and governed by five locally elected Board of Library Trustees. It operates on an annual budget of $3.9 million. ALD serves as the hub to the active and engaged community of Altadena. While the local schools are part of the Pasadena Unified School District, ALD serves five public elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school, as well as many private schools within the Altadena community. The library also serves home-schooled children and teens. Both the main and branch libraries offer a variety of special events and programs for all ages designed to inform and educate the public, while also providing fun!

Part-Time Facilities Worker
The District

The Position
The District is excited to announce we are hiring for a part-time Facilities Worker position!
The potential candidate in this position is integral to ensuring the library’s buildings and grounds are clean, safe, and well-maintained. This role involves a variety of custodial tasks, such as cleaning and sanitizing offices and public areas, as well as performing landscape upkeep and managing irrigation systems. The Facilities Worker is also responsible for carrying out minor repairs, such as plumbing, electrical, and painting, ensuring that all spaces are presentable and free from hazards. Additionally, the position includes setting up for library events and monitoring the premises for security issues, using de-escalation methods when necessary.
The Facilities Worker is expected to act independently, exercising good judgment in their daily tasks, and should possess computer literacy to effectively manage digital communication and utilize computer software. They are responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere by effectively interacting with patrons and library staff while adhering to policies and procedures. The Facility Worker must be prepared to adapt to changing priorities and remain focused on always ensuring the safety and functionality of the library facilities.
Library Facilities Workers are required to work a flexible schedule, which will include weekends, evenings, and respond to emergencies as they arise.

Salary
The starting hourly rate for this non-exempt position is $27.35 and will work an average of 19 hours per work week.

The Position
The District is excited to announce we are hiring for our Library Aide position!
The potential candidates in this entry-level position collect, sort, file, and shelve books, magazines, digital media, audio books, and other library materials and is responsible for maintaining accurate filing of shelved materials. They also retrieve library materials from interior and exterior books drops and storage areas; collect, receive and process returned materials; and search shelves for lost or missing materials. Library Aides also maintain the appearance and organization of the library space.
They will also regularly interact with all staff of the Altadena Libraries so the ability to provide a high level of customer service for library patrons and internal staff is required. The District plans to hire at least one Library Aide at our Main Library. Library Aides are required to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and evenings.

Salary

Under general direction from the Assistant Library Director, the Adult Services Manager:

Salary
The current monthly rate for this salaried, exempt position ranges from $7,392-10,401, negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
Benefits
Retirement: CalPERS, 2% @ 55 for classic members (employee pays 7% of member share), or 2% @ 62 for new members enrolled as of 01/01/2013 or afterward (employee pays 8.25% of member share). The District also participates in Social Security.
Vacation Leave: Full-time employees accrue at a rate of 18 days per year for five years, 21 days per year after five years, 23 days per year after nine years, and 28 days after 15 years. Although accruing leave, new employees are not eligible to use vacation leave during their six-month introductory period.
Holidays: Altadena Library District observes 12 paid holidays per year.
Sick Leave: Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of 1 day per month, or 12 days per year for full-time employees.
Health, Dental and Vision Insurance: The District and the employee share the cost of an employee selected health care plan; District pays up to $1675 per month.
Life Insurance: $15,000 Life Insurance Policy is provided.
An annual Wellness Stipend is given at the beginning of the fiscal year to all staff. The District also pays $50 a month in Bilingual Pay for those that qualify.
Deferred Compensation: Voluntary program available through CalPERS.
