About the exhibition
Local artist & botanical printer Linda Illumanardi received a grant from the Picerne Family Foundation to teach botanical printing and natural dyeing.

Thanks to this grant, the Altadena Libraries had the opportunity to partner with Linda, offering a yearlong artist- in-residency, during which she provided 48+ art classes — free to the community — from August 2022 to July 2023.

Botanical printing opens up conversations around science and art and gives students the opportunity to explore and appreciate the nature which surrounds us. Each week, neighbors spent 6+ hours learning, exploring, playing, and creating together.

Linda’s residency culminated in an 8-workshop series that brought Altadena neighbors together to create botanically dyed fabrics for the shared purpose of building a community quilt.

Our Altadena Community Quilt was assembled by Altadena residents & quilters Hester Bell & Veronica Jones.

Our community quilt hanging system was designed and built by Altadena resident Baeri Penn.
