We appreciate our community’s patience, flexibility, and willingness to explore new, digital ways to enjoy our collection while we do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19 among our staff and our neighbors. Library staff will return to the library buildings the first week of January, following enhanced safety protocols to reduce the risk of exposure. Upon staff’s return, preparation for curbside services will commence! Here’s how it will work:

  • Library cardholders are now able to place holds on physical items again in the Altadena Library online catalog.
  • Once your order is ready for pickup, you will receive a notification to call and schedule your curbside pickup appointment.
  • Curbside appointments will resume on Thursday, January 6, during the following times:
    • Main Library: Monday & Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. | Wednesday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
    • Bob Lucas Memorial Library: Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

How to Place an Order:

  • Go into the Altadena Library online catalog at catalog.altadenalibrary.org to place holds on the items you wish to check out.
    • To place a hold, sign into the catalog using your library card number and password/pin (last 4 digits of your phone number on file).
    • Find the item you want to check out and click on the thumbnail or title to get to the item’s page. On the item page, click the “Place a Hold” button at the top of the menu on the right. If you need assistance, call (626) 798-0833 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and library staff will assist you!
  • When your holds become available, you will receive a notification prompting you to call the library and schedule your curbside appointment. Call (626) 798-0833 on Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to schedule your appointment.
  • Library staff will work with you to schedule a 10-minute curbside pickup appointment at least one business day after your call. You will need to let library staff know the color and make/model of the vehicle in which you expect to be picking up your items.
