Summer Reading 2017 - Build a Better World

This summer, Build a Better World with the Altadena Library! Click here to register!

Summer is here, and that means Summer Reading! This year, we are Building a Better World through reading, programming, and taking action in our community.

As of June 1, Summer Reading is in full swing! This year, in addition to paper logs, readers will be able to record time spent reading online at Beanstack is a platform that will provide you with book recommendations, help track your reading, remind you of events, and so much more.

For Kids and Teens: The rules are simple: Read for 8 hours, and get a prize! Read 8 more, and get another prize! Read another 8 hours, for a total of 24 hours over the summer, and you’ll get... two more prizes! In Beanstack, you can also earn badges for different activities—like completing learning tracks or writing book reviews. For each badge you earn, you’ll be entered into a raffle to win even more prizes, like a membership to Kidspace (early literacy readers), a Lego Store gift card (elementary readers), or Visa gift cards (teen readers).

Any questions? Let us know! You can contact the Children’s Desk at 626-798-0833 x 108 or at, and you can reach the Teen Desk at 626-798-0833 x 119 or at

For Adults: Treat yourself to a free book (courtesy of the Friends of the Library bookstore) simply for signing up for our Adult Summer Reading Program! Win amazing prizes, like gift cards from Target and Vroman's, by logging in your reading hours in Beanstack. Complete the program by reading 24 hours and receive an invitation to our exclusive party and be entered into a grand prize drawing for an iPad mini!
