The Altadena Library Board of Trustees is announcing a vacancy and will make an appointment to fill that seat. The Altadena Library District thanks Trustee Cervantes for his years of dedicated service and extends its profound appreciation for all his work on behalf of the library and the community.
The Board of Trustees is accepting applications from anyone who would like to serve on the board for the two-year term starting in December 2022. Applicants must be at least 18, a resident of, and registered to vote in Altadena. The chosen candidate will be sworn in at the regular December board meeting on Monday, December 19, 2022.
The board meets at 5:00pm on the fourth Monday of each month; this unpaid, volunteer position involves budgetary and policy oversight as well as high-level strategic decision-making for the Altadena Library District. Interested parties should submit a letter of intent, resume, and completed supplemental questionnaire to the District Director by 5:00pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. The board will interview potential candidates at a Special Board Meeting to be held on Monday, November 14th at 7pm. Each candidate will be given 3 minutes to make a statement and will then be asked to answer 3 questions, which will be provided to candidates in advance of the meeting.

Nomination Process:
- Open application process, deadline at 5:00pm on November 9, 2022. Materials posted online.
- Trustee appointment will be the primary Action Item at the special board meeting held on Monday, November 14 at 7pm.
- All applicants are invited to attend the meeting and during this part of the agenda they will:
- Be given 3 minutes to speak about themselves and otherwise use the time as it relates to their interest in the Trustee appointment;
- Be asked 3 questions by the Board (all applicants will be asked the same ones);
- Names will be drawn from a hat to randomly determine the order of the applicants.
- A motion will be made to proceed to a roll call vote on appointment; after receiving a second, the President will open up the floor for discussion and debate.
- Roll call vote taken.
- One applicant must receive a majority vote (3 out of 4) to be selected;
- If one applicant does not get 3 votes, the floor will again open up for discussion from the Board;
- Repeat this step until one candidate receives at least 3 of the 4 votes.
- New Trustee is appointed to the Board.
