The Altadena Library invites you to participate in our Library Cards for Foster Youth Program! Foster care givers may sign up their foster children for library cards so that they may check out books and other materials as well as use the computer centers in the Main and Branch libraries. No fines or fees will be charged for this program.

Who is eligible?

• Children and young adults age 17 and under who are identified as participants in the DCFS Los Angeles County, Out-of-Home Care (OHS) system licensed foster parents, group home staff members, or relative caregiver, may apply for the card.

How do I get my foster child a card?

• Bring your foster child with you to the library

• Present a picture ID and verification of current address (not just a PO Box)

Suitable ID:

1. Current driver’s license or ID card
2. Checkbook or bankbook
3. Current printed bill
4. Current cancelled envelope
5. Escrow papers or rental receipt   

Please also present one of the following DCFS documents:

1.  Agency Foster Parents Placement Agreement
2.  Relative Caregiver’s Declaration and Agreement
3.  Agency Group Home Agreement

What about teens?

• Those age 14-17 may apply for a card without the foster parent. They must bring proof that they are a foster child at the time of acquiring a library card.
