The Branch Library, in which the District Literacy Services are housed, was dedicated on the current site in 1957 and was called the Arroyo Seco Branch Library. It was closed after Proposition 13 was passed in 1978 and reopened in 1991 at which time its name was changed to the Bob Lucas Memorial Branch Library and Literacy Center.
The collection consists of children's picture books, children's non-fiction, juvenile chapter books, young adult fiction, graphic novels, adult popular fiction and non-fiction, magazines, DVDs, and a reference collection. Adult and children's Spanish language fiction and non-fiction books are also available.
The Branch is pleased to offer free wireless Internet access to patrons with appropriately equipped wireless devices. The Branch also offers six public access computer terminals equipped with free Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. A valid Altadena library card is required for use of the public access computers or a guest pass may be issued. The Branch also offers Chromebooks (laptops) for check out to library card holders.
