Friends of the Altadena Library - October Update

Mon, 10/02/2017 - 4:29pm -- MKittay

FRIENDS | frɛnds | n  : 1. an iconic television show from 1994-2004; 2. non-family members that we grow close to in our personal lives; 3. a common title to a group of supporters such as the Friends of the Altadena Library

Those of you who are members of the Library's support group - Friends of the Altadena Library (FOAL) are aware of the important contributions that derive from your annual membership dues, book sales inside the library, the Annual Library Book Sale each May and straight monetary donations. Last year, the Board of Directors of our 501c3 organization contributed more than $21,000 that supplemented many of the programs our library provided to the community. This year, our goal is to contribute at least $24,000.This is our 58th year of supporting our local library.

For those of you who weren't able to attend the Library's big event - "Taste of Dena", the event was well planned and successful in raising some of the funds needed towards the landscape improvements to the perimeter of the library property. The FOAL was one of the co-sponsors and we were well represented with members who purchased tickets and attended, volunteered at food and drink stations, and assisted with the check-in of guests.

Starting this month, the Board is asking you to start thinking about renewing your membership for the 2018 year, or if not a current member, registering now as a member of FOAL. All membership applications processed now through the end of the year are considered members during the full 2018 calendar year. End of the year contributions for tax purposes are also welcomed.

This year, we are expanding our book sales by holding one-day sales on the second Saturday of the month (October 14th, from 10-4pm, November 11th, from 10-4 pm, and December 9th - time TBD). These sales are open to the general public. We hope to see you there!

Established in 1959, the Friends of the Altadena Library is an organization committed to the support of the Altadena Library District and its programs and services.
