MISSION
The Altadena Library Foundation supports and enriches the facilities, resources, and services of the Altadena Library District. We will accomplish our mission through fundraising and advocacy.
IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVES
To raise funds for the renovation and expansion of the Altadena Main Library while honoring and preserving the historic architecture of the existing building. Specifically, to raise:
- To raise funds for plans and scoping documents
- Expand the Foundation’s Board of Directors
- Hire a Capital Campaign Funding Consultant
WHY
- Because the community’s Needs Assessment and Design Camps in 2008/09 resulted in a Master Facility Plan for the renovation and expansion of the Altadena Main Library.
- Because the Main library is 44 years old, overcrowded, non-ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant and in desperate need of repair, renovation and expansion to provide modern library services and an expanded Children’s wing.
- Because Altadena is a community of approximately 55,000 people. 88% of the residents use the library regularly and approximately 43% are children or teens.
- Because the Altadena Library District as an independent library district is solely supported by property taxes and a small parcel tax. While this is adequate for day-to-day operations, it is not sufficient to cover capital improvements.
WHAT
Support for the Altadena Library Foundation is support for the Altadena Library District. Every dollar counts. Your donation to the Altadena Library Foundation helps the Altadena Library District grow stronger and reach its goal of a renovated and expanded facility.
RAISING FUNDS
Our immediate goal is to raise funds to allow us to pursue long-term goals. These funds will pay for a feasibility study, which will tell us how much we can reasonably expect to raise in this economy, and for a professional fundraiser to guide us. All gifts are tax deductible. View architectural plans.
